Cody Rhodes is having the time of his life since returning to WWE and he proved it during a recent live event.
He’s made no secret that a huge part of his comeback is down to his late date Dusty Rhodes, who never won the WWE Championship.
The so-called Son of a Plumber sadly died in 2015, but the American Dream’s legacy lives on in the fans who loved him and the wrestlers he inspired.
During a recent WWE live event, Cody spotted someone in the crowd dressed like Dusty – and he was the spitting image of the late Hall of Famer.
Addressing the fan in a video doing the rounds on Twitter, he said: ‘There’s a little something different here tonight, huh? You guys see the American Dream Dusty Rhodes is in the house!
‘Well, you look the part. I’m gonna put you on the spot. Can you do a Dusty impersonation? You think you can? Listen, if you do it they’re gonna cheer or they’re gonna boo.
‘You guys are gonna be the judges, right? Alright, ladies and gentlemen – the American Dream Dusty Rhodes.’
Almost as soon as the man opened his mouth, the crowd were stunned by the uncanny similarity to Dusty’s iconic voice, and Cody appeared emotional.
‘Well done,’ he said. ‘Well done, my man.’
Cody made his WWE comeback last month at WrestleMania 38 in Dallas, Texas as he defeated Seth Freakin’ Rollins, who he seems poised to face for a third time at Hell In A Cell after sneaking a win at WrestleMania Backlash over the weekend.
The morning after his comeback, he reflected on another reason for his big move and exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘What happens around the Rumble, this is gonna sound super marky and that’s fine. I have really good Rumble stats. I’m one of the only two in that top 10 to not win it.
‘I remember thinking, that’s gonna go away! [Dolph] Ziggler’s still at this, these guys are getting time. It would be really good to go back in a vindicated type way, to be me and try to be the absolute best wrestlers in the world and prove it here.’
WWE Raw airs Monday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
